The Kościuszko Mound is one of the four Krakow mounds built together with national heroes, dedicated to Tadeusz Kościuszko, located on the Hill of St. Bronisława in the western part of Krakow in the administrative district of Zwierzyniec. The Kościuszko Mound in Krakow since its inception, i.e. construction in 1820-1823, has been continuously managed by the Kościuszko Mound Committee in Krakow established in 1820. The Krakow Kościuszko Mound is one of the "ramparts defending the national consciousness of Poles". Heaped up during the Free City of Krakow, which was the only scrap of independent Poland, it has remained to this day a symbol of Poles' hope for freedom and independence. Even after the liquidation of the Free City, one Viennese morga of land, on which the symbolic Grave of the Head of Insurrection stands, remained de facto extraterritorial. The mound rewards visitors with one of the most beautiful panoramas of Krakow, with a view of the most recognizable buildings of the Old Town: among others: Wawel, St. Mary's Basilica, and the Cloth Hall, as well as the Cracow Upland, the Sandomierz Basin, Wieliczka Foothills, Beskids and in good visibility also the Tatra Mountains .
