Address: Wawel 2 , 31-001 Kraków
It is located in the Cathedral House, a building integrated from two 14th-century houses. The eastern part is a former tenement house built during the times of Casimir the Great. The western part is the former Gothic House. On September 28, 1978, on the 20th anniversary of his episcopal ordination, Archbishop Metropolitan of Krakow, Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, later Pope John Paul II, made a grand opening and dedication of the Wawel Cathedral Museum. It was his last official speech in Wawel before being elected pope. Soon after this event, the Museum was named after John Paul II. The exhibition contains the most important and oldest Polish regalia and all kinds of items related to religious worship: fabrics, paintings, artistic handicrafts and sculptures from episcopal, royal and noble foundations, which are one of the most valuable memorabilia of the Polish Nation. Most have been kept in the Cathedral Treasury, which has suffered numerous damages due to the wars with Polish invaders. Despite this, the Wawel Cathedral Museum has one of the most valuable art collections in Poland in artistic and historical terms.
