One of the oldest Polish cities with over a thousand years of history, with many valuable architectural objects. There are also many cultural institutions and institutions collecting priceless monuments. In the past, the city belonged to the Hanseatic League of major trade centers in Europe. Until 1795 Krakow was formally the capital of Poland, and until 1611 it was the seat of the rulers of the Polish state. In the years 1596–1795, i.e. until the Third Partition of Poland, as the capital of the Republic of Poland he shared the capital's functions with Warsaw, which became the king's residential city. He was the royal city of the Crown of the Polish Kingdom. Currently, it is the capital of the Lesser Poland voivodship as well as the central metropolitan center of the Krakow agglomeration. In historical records it is recognized as the main city of historical Lesser Poland.
