Address: ul. Szeroka 40 , Kraków

Located in the former Jewish district of Krakow, at 40 Szeroka Street. It was once called the 'New' synagogue. It has its own cemetery of 4.5 ha located between ul. Szeroka, Miodowa, Jakuba, Ciemna and Lewkowa. Its beginnings date back to the 16th century. It was built in 1553 in honor of the Jewish philosopher Moshe Isserles, called Remuh. In 1557, the building burned down, but after obtaining permission from King Sigismund Augustus, it was rebuilt in the same year. The building at that time is small. In 1829 it underwent a thorough renovation, which resulted in its contemporary appearance. During World War II, the Nazis discovered a composition of impregnated corpse sacks and a warehouse for fire brigade equipment. At that time, the interior of the building was destroyed. After the war, the synagogue was recovered by the Jewish Religious Community. In 1957 it was renovated, some elements of the interior were reconstructed. To this day, the synagogue is the center of Jewish religious life. Services are regularly held there, and the cemetery is visited frequently.
