The ruins of the castle in Czchów on the hill called the Tower on the Dunajec in the Brest poviat. The castle, expanded between the 13th and 16th centuries, protected a trade route along the Dunajec River and a customs chamber for goods imported from Hungary. It appears in written sources for the first time in 1356. Originally, the Romanesque defensive tower was located here; in the fourteenth century, a castle was built around it, which was the seat of the Czchów starostes; it was destroyed in the 17th century. Currently, only the fourteenth-century tower has survived, partly destroyed (without the upper floor), and exposed wall foundations. In the second half of the 18th century, the tower preserved until today was a prison; it was liquidated after the First Partition of Poland. The castle was made of sandstone. It was composed of a 1.2-2 m thick perimeter wall surrounding the edge of the hill and a free-standing cylindrical tower with a diameter of 12.5 m and a height of about 20 m. It was built in the southern part of the castle. A residential house was located by the north-eastern curtain, a rectangular hallway was adjoining from the south, while in the eastern part of the wall there was an entrance gate.
