The largest stone bridge The Stacha Bridge is a record-breaking stone building located in Znamirowice, in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, at Rożnowskie Lake. The bridge was erected over a deep canyon in the 1970s. One man built the bridge and the road himself - Mr. Jan Stach (born in 1918), who also emphasizes his wife's contribution to the final success. A relatively small mountain stream (periodic character) flowing in the bottom of a deep canyon flows under the bridge through a barrel vault. The tunnel is about 3m high and about 2m wide. In order to reduce the water flow rate under the bridge, the slope of the creek upstream of the tunnel is reduced, and a larger drop occurs after the bridge. This solution additionally removes excess water standing in the tunnel itself. Additional resistance for flowing water, especially after heavy rainfall, are the hard rocks of the Carpathian flysch, from which the stream bed is built. Currently, the stream itself is about 1.5 km long, and the estuary has an artificial lake of the Rożnowskie Lake. The height of the building is about 16 m, length about 12 m and width 6 m. The Stach Bridge is considered the world's largest stone bridge built by one man. Mr. Jan Stach started working in the late 1960s. After about 3 years of construction, the bridge was already passable. The arch of the Stach Bridge - stone walls on both sides of the bridge are routed along the arch line, providing the structure with adequate rigidity and strength. The width of a gravel road running across the bridge allows vehicles to pass by freely. The edges of the road are protected by walls less than a meter high. The main reason why Jan Stach decided to erect this impressive building was the lack of an access road to his farm, located in the nearby hamlet Zapad. The only possible access was through the neighbor's road, but he forbade Stach to use it. The reason was the personal conflict of Mr. Stach with a neighbor. Therefore, the host built his own road about 500 meters long and constructed a stone bridge over the ravine. The extraordinary determination of Jan Stach, who practically built this passage himself, was widely discussed and described. Currently, in addition to a fully functional, frequented bridge with a high load capacity, the bridge has become a known local attraction, often visited by tourists. There are plans to place a plaque or even a pedestal next to the bridge, with basic information about the unusual design. Brine. pogorza.pl/najwiekszy-most-kamienny.htm
