The Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum is a German Nazi concentration camp located in Oświęcim and nearby towns. As the only such camp is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, under the official name of Auschwitz-Birkenau. It existed in 1940-1945 and is a symbol of the Holocaust. Initially, Polish political prisoners were placed in the camp, but from 1942 it became the largest place for the murder of Jews imported by the Germans during the Nazi plan of their extermination. Over 1.1 million people lost their lives here. The preserved Memorial Site consists of two parts of the former concentration camp: Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau. 3.5-hour lectures combined with visiting the facilities are organized there. The educational activity conducted here perfectly shows the drama of authentic events that took place in the museum.
