The museum is located on the site of the former Rakowice-Czyżyny airport. It was created after the Air Show which took place in 1964, its materials became its first exhibits. The museum organizes museum lessons, conferences, meetings and publishes its own publications. The museum's collection includes over 200 exhibits - airplanes, helicopters, gliders, powered sailplanes and aircraft engines. The oldest are from World War I - e.g. the Russian flying boat Grigorowicz M-15, Sopwith Camel and LVG B.II. The large hangar houses pre-war gliders (e.g. WWS Wrona bis, Swift S-1), there is also a collection of helicopters.
