Tourists know very well how beautiful the Cracow-Częstochowa Upland is. Popular Jura is not only beautiful valleys and impressive rock inselbergs. It is also valuable monuments of ancient architecture that can be found here in virtually every town. There are many uplands and small, beautifully located towns that have retained their historical character to this day. One of the most beautiful is Alwernia. Alwernia, located near the Rodniański Landscape Park, is above all an attractive area, perfect for lovers of hiking. The town itself has an interesting history, it can also boast of interesting, historic buildings. The name of the place has Italian origin. Krzysztof Koryciński, founder of the town and founder of the local monastery, in the early 17th century traveled a lot around Italy. He was particularly enchanted by the hill of La Verna with the famous hermitage of Saint. Francis. It was the expedition to this mountain that inspired him to found a new monastery in the vicinity of Krakow. And this is how today's Alwernia was founded, whose life has centered around the local monastery complex for centuries. Because it was also thanks to him that a town was created, whose inhabitants were to provide care to pilgrims coming here from far away. The inhabitants of Alwernia dealt in craft and trade, while the settlement itself grew rapidly. Today, it is one of the towns most visited by tourists around Krakow. The most valuable monument of the city is the Bernardine monastery complex. The beautiful church of Our Lady of the Angels and Stigmas of Saint. Francis of Assisi. This baroque temple boasts valuable (also baroque) furnishings. The Koryciński family tombstones look beautiful, but the biggest attraction in the church interior is the image placed in the side chapel. This is the "Ecce Homo" painting, painted in the Byzantine style, which was created in the 16th century. He came to Alwernia from distant Constantinople, becoming automatically the most valuable element of the local temple. During your visit to this town, you must visit the market square. The small market square, surrounded by greenery, is surrounded by historic wooden buildings. Some of them arose in the 18th century and have been successfully preserved to this day. An interesting decoration of the market is also the chapel of St. Florian from the mid-nineteenth century. Near the market there is the largest, secular attraction of Alwernia. This is the Malopolska Museum of Firefighting. Tourists can see not only fire equipment, but also an interesting collection of antique cars. This museum has been operating since 1953, and its existence is possible thanks to the social work of local firefighters.
